  Politically correct for the holidays

Shopping is done. Well mostly. I need to pick up a few stocking stuffers. Other than that, it's finished. I'm not gonna complain about the jackass drivers or shoppers, because let's be honest... We are all edgy aggressive assholes out to snipe that sale item or that parking spot. It's a big circle, you pissed me off, but then I pissed of the next guy and he pissed of yet another person.

Anyways... I only have one big task left. I was asked to say the prayer this year at the dinner at my parents (with my brothers and their families also in attendence). Why? I don't know. I'm an atheist. I don't want to pray, let alone lead a prayer.

I have a few ideas, but since there are others in my extended family who practice different faiths, I want to be PC about it. Can anyone help me out? I need a list of dieties because I'd hate to leave anyone out. I guess I could just ask everyone what they worship. The problem with that is that then they would know I've been tuning them out while they babble about how I'm going to rot or burn or come back as a beetle or whatever for not believing. I can't have that drama (or the repeats of the lectures).

Anyways here's how it looks so far:

Dear {insert list}, who art in their heads,
Thank you for being you. Can we eat now?

P.S. Thanks for not poisoning our food with the plague like you did to those sorry bastards with the spinach or at the Taco Bells and now the Indianpolis area Olive Garden.

Amen, Abracadabra, Shazam, Nunee nunee noo, Gesundheit, and all that jazz
I tried not to say too much that might directly look like it is coming from one faith or another. Playing this politically correct game is tough, but in the end I think we are better off for it. I just have one question though...

What have we become?
What have we become?

Or you could say tahnk you for the family and health, and food. Add more words but you can be respectfull about it. I think you aren't going to do it receptfully then go to the person who asked you and politly decline.

I am Christian and I get so amd when people treat God and people of faith as a joke. You don't beileve in God that's your business but don't belittle others faith. I know you are better than this.

Stepping off my soapbox.

How about this one? Rub-A-Dub-Dub. Thanks for the grub. Yaaaay God!

Peety: No problem.

Joanna: The respect thing should work both ways though. If someone has been told a number of times your beliefs (or lack there of), is it not disrespectful for them to keep ignoring that? I say what I say, but I do not ask anyone else to agree or repeat after me. If someone wants to lead a prayer, I'll bow my head and follow through the motions. I'm very much against leading a prayer though, especially when the person who had asked me knows my thoughts on the subject.

I did decline leading the prayer. I was just joking here in my blog post. If I were one of the other believers in the room who knew that someone who did not believe was leading the prayer I think I would feel that it was meaningless (since it is meaningless to the person actually saying it).

Lady: Ah, the rub-a-dub-dub is a classic but maybe a little over used. Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm more looking for the "WOW" factor. : )

I am glad to hear that thank you. I know you are athiest but I still like you. I think you are a good person from what I know of you talking to you over the last few months.

I wonder why someone would ask a non religious person to elad a prayer. Maybe they don't take their own faith seriously?

I don't think you should have to follow along somethign you don't agree with, that's just wrong. I hope you had a great Christams!
